Bug in Truecaller affects UPI payments feature

A bug on mobile directory app Truecaller, which has over 100 million active users in India, has affected UPI-based digital payments feature on the platform. The bug was automatically enrolling Truecaller user in the country to use unified payments interface (UPI) payment feature on the app. Truecaller apologised for failing to deliver quality standard in the app and said it has discontinued the version which was hit by the bug but "for the users already affected, the new version with the fix will be available shortly".

BSNL introduces new unlimited calling plan at Rs 96

State-owned Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) has introduced a new recharge plan for its prepaid subscribers at a price of Rs 96. The new plan offers unlimited voice calls along with 100 SMS per day for a validity of 21 days. Having said that the plan comes with an overall validity of 180 days. There is no data benefit with this plan. The plan is not available in Delhi and Mumbai telecom circles. Subscribers can activate the plan by typing PLAN VOICE96 and sending the SMS to 123.

Truecaller launches new feature for high-quality, free Internet voice call

To facilitate high quality Internet calls, communication app Truecaller on Tuesday launched a new feature called "Truecaller Voice" for its 140 million daily active users globally, the company said in a statement. The in-app voice over Internet protocol (VoIP)-based feature would let users make free, high quality, low latency and quick to connect audio calls through Wi-Fi or mobile data connectivity.

Past debate on Trai's MySpeed app results not a closed issue: COAI

More than a year after contesting the validity of mobile data speeds measured by a Trai app, industry body COAI said the issue is "not closed" and that users would tend to look at alternate data testers available, all of which yield similar results. The issue of mobile data speed measured by MySpeed app of Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (Trai) had been a bone of contention in the industry. Some operators, last year, had questioned the methods and results of the regulator''s app that ranks telecom operators in upload and download speeds.

RJio consolidates its news content apps to launch JioNews app & website

Mukesh Ambani-driven Reliance Jio has launched a digital product ‘JioNews’ in the form of a mobile application as well as web-based service (jionews.com), the company said in an official release on Thursday. JioNews is a consolidated offering of JioXpressNews, JioMags and JioNewsPaper with additional offering of live TV and videos. All existing users of these apps will be migrated to JioNews and Jio users will have premium access to all the features of the JioNews app.

Now register complaint with DoT against offensive WhatsApp messages

People can now file a complaint with the Department of Telecom (DoT) against offensive messages received on WhatsApp, an official said Friday. The victim just needs to furnish a screenshot of the message along with the mobile number and e-mail it to ccaddn-dot@nic.in. Prasar Bharati says OTT service providers carrying live TV should mandatorily carry all DD channels

Prasar Bharati, India’s public service broadcaster, said over-the-top (OTT) service providers carrying live TV channels should mandatorily carry all the Doordarshan channels and the ones offering news should be registered with the ministry of information and broadcasting. Prasar Bharati’s comments were in response to the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (Trai) consultation paper on the regulatory framework for OTT service providers.

Microsoft to end 'Windows 7' support in 2020

Even though Microsoft ended mainstream support for "Windows 7" in January 2015, the software giant has now decided to put a final halt on the roll-out of free security patches also for the operating system (OS) next year. "After January 14, 2020, Microsoft will no longer provide security updates or support for PCs running ''Windows 7''," the company wrote in a post on Monday. Even after Microsoft ends support for the older OS, users would still be able to operate on it but would not receive any security, software or feature updates.

BSNL partners Eros Now to offer unlimited content subscription to prepaid subscribers

State-owned telecom operator Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) has partnered with online video brand Eros Now to offer unlimited content subscription to prepaid subscribers of select plans. The telco in a press release on Monday said that it has signed an agreement with Eros Now which would allow subscribers to access more than 11000 movie titles, music videos, original web shows and exclusive videos.
