India has 73.9 million internet users, only US and China are ahead of us

India may be lagging behind many countries in terms of internet speed, but when it comes to number of internet users, it is only behind the US and China. According to a report by ComScore, a leader in measuring the digital world, India boasts of having 73.9 million home and work internet users.

This makes India a home to youngest internet users among the BRIC nations (Brazil, Russia, India and China). The report says that people under the age of 35 constitute 75% of the internet user base in the country.
 
If we talk about the women internet users in the country, they are mostly between 35-44 years of age.

These facts have been revealed in ComScore’s 2013 India Digital Future in Focus report. which  provides a comprehensive overview of the Indian market and identifies the prevailing trends in web usage, online video, social networking and online advertising that are defining the Indian online landscape.
 
According to an industry expert, the focused and the sustained efforts by the government for the growth of broadband in the countries is largely responsible for this growth.

According to the regulator TRAI, total Broadband subscriber base has increased from 15.09 million at the end of April 2013 to 15.13 million at the end of May 2013, there by showing a monthly growth of 0.23%. Yearly growth in broadband subscribers is 5.75% during the last one year (May 2012 to May 2013).

The ComScore report also observes that the Indian blogging audience grew 48 percent in the past year to 36 million visitors, while 26 percent of category traffic comes from mobile phones and tablets.

It further said that 54 million internet users in India watched online videos on their computer, representing a 27-percent increase over the past year.

If one talks about the Asia Pacific more than 40 percent of global internet users are now based in the region with an audience of 644 million. Southeast Asian markets account for approximately 10 percent of the Asia Pacific internet population.

With 16.1 million monthly internet users, Vietnam now has the largest online population in Southeast Asia.
