Review--Blackberry-Playbook---RIM-enters-tablet-market-with-a-bang

Design:

RIM has entered into the Tablet market with its much awaited Blackberry Playbook. Though, the entry is late but it will give tough competition to its rivals. The Playbook is Solid, Fast and Stunning. Its screen size is 7 inches with dimensions 130mm, 194mm and 10mm in height, width and depth. The weight is 425 gm and as far as tablet is concerned it is normal. The built of this device is strong and it is handy too. It comes with less hard keys and most of its operations are on screen only. On the front of BlackBerry Playbook is two stereo speakers with stereo microphone on either of the sides and above its screen you will see a 3 megapixels HD front facing camera for video calling purpose and proximity sensors near it. On either of its depth is has no key. You also get a power/Lock key with three other keys that controls your volume/camera zoom/ forward/rewind and a play/pause key. These keys are small in size and are hard to press, which might irritate you. Also on its top right corner is a 3.5 mm universal earjack port. On its bottom there are two ports, one is USB/Charging port and another is HDMI port whereas, the back side of playbook holds a 5 megapixels HD camera. The overall design of BlackBerry playbook is simple and in a solid built but the screen size is small.

Camera:

The blackberry playbook comes with a 5 megapixels HD rear camera with auto focus and a 3 megapixels HD front facing camera. Both the cameras work really well and capture video in 1080 pixels high definition resolution recording and video calling. The rear camera lacks with LED flash but still the image quality and video quality it captures is great. Same is the performance of its front camera with HD video calling and stereo microphone, the audio and video quality to the caller goes brilliant.

Memory:

Blackberry Playbook comes in-built with 16, 32 and 64 GB memory space and there is no micro SD card slot to increase device’s memory. You have to be pre decided with your selection of memory space.

Operating System/Interface:

The RIM (research in motion) has left no stone unturned to be the market leader. It is reflected in its powerful 1 GHz Dual core processor and 1 GB RAM to support it in BlackBerry Playbook. And the updated OS 2.0 is smart and intelligent too. Leaving its tradition of trackball and optical trackpad RIM has come up with a full touch access pattern for this operating system. This in fact is not just competitive for iOS and Android platform but has almost surpassed it. 1GB RAM is massive and supports well in its functioning. Multitasking in blackberry playbook is real fun and easy to use. It is hassle free and you can run apps simultaneously rather than switching between them.

Features:

The blackberry playbook comes in-built with all basic and popular features. And the new OS 2.0 offers advanced and much to do features. The built-in messages come with a unified inbox that manages both your email and Social network messages in it. The Calendar is designed beautifully and gives you plenty of options to organize and manage your meetings or agenda of the day. The contacts app is another beautiful creation, which is not limited to just an address book, in fact keeps your social networking sites contact details too. The video chat is just superb its 3 megapixels HD front facing video camera with stereo speakers and stereo microphone works terrific. The best part is its capability of real multitasking, that allows you swapping from chat to contacts to email and many more. “Documents to go” is another good app that let you view and edit Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint files. And with “Print to go” app you can wirelessly print from your laptop or pc to your playbook. Entertainment Playbook also offers BlackBerry App World, where one can purchase a one stop place to download or purchase the app of you choice, be it Games app or social networking sites blackberry app world is your solution. Blackberry Bridge, a new added feature is interesting and helpful. It allows blackberry playbook to pair with a blackberry smartphone which can act as a keyboard or mouse for your playbook and is perfect when in use with HDMI connection. On security front, blackberry playbook comes with QNX technology to keep your personal and work data safe and we must say it really works safe. Multitasking on this interface was amazing and a great fun. While reviewing the unit, I found it easy to swap between applications while on another window I was downloading video. The features of this device are great and amazing.

Conclusion:

The RIM’s BlackBerry Playbook is a great entry into Tablet market and surely is successful. Two HD camera’s, 1 GHz processor, 1 GB RAM, stereo speakers and microphone, HDMI connectivity, etc. makes it powerful and competitive with Apple and Samsung. Its 7 inch screen size is less in comparison to present available tablets in the market. The built quality of playbook is strong but the keys on its Top are very small and hard to press. Overall, it was a great experience testing this device and we give it Four star rating.
